Help
Everything you need for Open Source Village on one page.
Signing in for the first time
- After your pass is paid you get an e-mail, "Your Open Source Village pass is active". Open its sign-in link on the phone or computer you want to use. It works once, within 7 days.
- That signs you in. You land on your account: your pass, your village name and the apps.
- Next time, open any app and choose Sign in with Open Source Village. Enter your e-mail address. We send you a link and a 6-digit code, both valid for 10 minutes: open the link in the same browser, or type the code on the sign-in page (handy on a device where your e-mail is not). Once you are signed in, the apps sign you in by themselves.
No e-mail? Check your spam folder, then ask a steward to send a new link.
Your pass at the door
You have two ways:
- On your phone, no app needed: open your pass and show the QR code. It renews itself every 30 seconds, so keep the page open; each code works for 90 seconds only.
- In an EUDI wallet: open the claim link in your activation e-mail and scan the code with your wallet. Your wallet then shows the pass at the door, and you can also sign in with it.
The apps
- Chat · Private messages with other participants
- Calendar · The village's events and your own calendars
- Vote · Anonymous polls, one vote per pass
- Wallet · Your village tokens: receive and pass them on
- Directory · Who is here: the participants who chose to be listed
- Market · Offers between participants, paid in village tokens
- Photos · Pictures of the village, shared between participants
- Programme · What is on now and next: the programme, the rooms, participants' sessions
- Groups · Rooms for teams, topics and projects
- Feedback · Tell us what works and what does not
All apps use the same sign-in. The bar at the top of every app takes you to the others, and "Apps" back to your account.
Village tokens
Every pass brings 50 tokens per day. They have no money value: use them in the marketplace, to tip a photographer, or pass them on to anyone. The link in your activation e-mail puts them into the wallet. Once you have signed in to the wallet, it keeps your tokens on every device you use.
Your identity
Your account page shows your village name (for example osv-0042@<domain>) and your Nostr key. Belfry keeps the key safe for you. If you have your own Nostr signer, you can move your identity to your own key on the security page; after that, the apps sign in with your own signer.
If you already use Nostr, you can also join with your key from the start: on the invite page, tick Join with my own Nostr key. Your browser's signer extension shares your public key and signs once to show the key is yours; Belfry never sees your private key. In the apps, sign in with your own signer (a browser extension or a bunker link) instead of "Sign in with Open Source Village".
Inviting friends
The village grows through people who know each other: you join with an invite, or by applying and getting one from the stewards. With an active pass you can invite a few friends: open your pass, then Create an invite link and send or share it. Each link works once and expires after two weeks; the page shows which links were used, and an unused one can be revoked to get the invite back.
Something wrong?
- Lost your activation e-mail, or no sign-in link arrives: ask a steward.
- Someone breaks the community rules: use the Report button, or tell a steward.
- Something does not work, or could be better: send feedback (the Feedback link in the apps' top bar takes you there with the page you were on).
- A steward: [TO FILL: where to find stewards at the event, and how to reach them before and after it].
